In short
Meat wholesalers and distributors can use Protein Link on both sides of the market: to buy product that fills a gap in their range, and to list surplus or slow-moving stock for other approved businesses. One account can be set up for buying and selling. Supplier base pricing stays confidential, and visibility controls help protect existing customer relationships.
Wholesalers buy and sell
A wholesaler's week rarely runs in one direction. One day you are short on a line a customer needs; the next you are carrying more of something than you can move through your usual channels. Protein Link is built for both situations, and if you request access for both sides of the market, the team will set up your account to buy and sell.
Buying to fill gaps
When a regular source falls short, you can compare verified listings across beef, lamb, pork, chicken and seafood. Each listing states its specification, storage state, pack format and buyer price ex GST, so you can judge quickly whether it fits your customer's order.
Selling surplus without undercutting yourself
When you list stock as a supplier, you set your base price and Protein Link applies its margin to present one buyer price. Buyers never see your base price. Visibility controls let you decide which buyer groups can see sensitive listings, which helps when you want to move volume without unsettling existing customers.
Our guide to selling excess stock explains the process in more detail.
Structured records on every deal
- Every order records the product, specification, quantity, price and documents
- Order requests are accepted by the supplier before freight is quoted
- Payment runs through the platform before anything ships
- Counterparty identity is protected until the order is paid and freight is resolved
Freight between businesses
Refrigerated freight is coordinated through Protein Link's carrier partner and quoted per shipment. The pickup and delivery lanes available to your business are confirmed during onboarding, and paid trading opens alongside refrigerated freight. For background on how freight is rated, see cartons, pallets and freight spaces.
Getting set up
Request access and say you want to buy and sell. The team verifies your ABN and trading profile. There is no cost to apply, get verified or list stock; supplier fees are confirmed during verification. The supplier onboarding guide and buyer onboarding guide set out each step.
Frequently asked questions
Can one business both buy and sell on Protein Link?
Yes. Mention it when you request access and the team will set up your account for both sides of the market.
Will my customers see my base price if I list stock?
No. Buyers only see the platform price. Your base price is never shown to buyers.
Can I stop certain buyers seeing a listing?
Visibility controls let suppliers decide which buyer groups can see sensitive listings.
What does it cost a wholesaler to sell?
There is no cost to request access, get verified or list. Supplier fees are confirmed during verification and depend on product category and trading volume.
When do I get paid for stock I sell?
The buyer pays before anything ships. Once the payment is verified, your share transfers to your Stripe account for that order, and Stripe pays your bank on its payout schedule.
