For Suppliers · Surplus Stock
Sell excess meat stock without disrupting your channels
In short
Protein Link gives verified suppliers a controlled way to offer surplus stock to approved trade buyers. You set a base price that buyers never see, choose which buyer groups can see a sensitive listing, and accept only the order requests you want. It is designed to sit alongside your existing customers rather than compete with them.
Why surplus is hard to move quietly
Excess stock builds up for ordinary reasons: a cancelled order, an over-forecast, a production run that yields more of one cut than expected, or a customer who changes specification. The usual options, such as ringing around or discounting to a regular customer, can take time and can reset price expectations with the people you supply every week.
A controlled channel
- Your base price is never shown to buyers; they see one platform price
- Visibility controls decide which buyer groups can see sensitive listings
- You accept or decline each order request
- Counterparty identities stay protected until the order is paid and freight is resolved
Describe surplus precisely
Buyers move faster on stock they can understand without a phone call. List the product, specification, storage state, pack format and volume, and note anything a buyer would need to know, such as a production date range or a pack format that differs from your usual line.
If surplus has been frozen down from chilled, list it as frozen and describe it accurately. The chilled versus frozen guide explains why buyers care.
Pricing surplus
You set the base price for each listing, and Protein Link applies its margin to present one buyer price ex GST. Because buyers never see your base price, pricing a surplus line on Protein Link does not publish a number to your regular customers.
Payment before dispatch
Once you accept a request, freight for the shipment is quoted and confirmed, and the buyer pays through the platform before anything ships. When the payment is verified, your share transfers to your Stripe account for that order, and Stripe pays your bank on its payout schedule.
Freight
Refrigerated freight is coordinated through Protein Link's carrier partner and quoted per shipment. Your pickup lane is confirmed during onboarding, and paid trading opens alongside refrigerated freight.
Planning ahead
If surplus is a regular part of your business, our guide to managing excess wholesale meat inventory covers ways to spot it early and list it while it still has plenty of shelf life. For stock closer to its date, see selling short-dated stock.
Frequently asked questions
Will listing surplus undercut my regular customers?
Your base price is never shown, and visibility controls let you limit which buyer groups see a sensitive listing, so you decide how widely an offer is seen.
Can I list a one-off lot rather than a regular line?
Yes. Listings can cover regular lines, one-off surplus or short-dated stock, as long as the product is described accurately.
Can I remove a listing if the stock sells elsewhere?
Yes. Keep listings current so buyers only see stock that is actually available.
Is there a cost to list surplus?
There is no cost to request access, get verified or list. Supplier fees are confirmed during verification and depend on product category and trading volume.
