Bulk protein sourcing for food manufacturers
In short
Food manufacturers use Protein Link to compare bulk protein inputs, such as manufacturing beef, pork trim, chicken and frozen lines, from verified Australian suppliers. Each listing sets out the specification, storage state, pack format and volume, so your procurement team can check an offer against your raw material specification before requesting it.
Why raw material buying is hard for manufacturers
A production line needs consistent inputs. A change in lean percentage, fat cover, pack format or frozen state can affect yield, cook loss and the finished product. At the same time, manufacturers often need to secure volume quickly when a contract lands or a regular source falls short.
Juggling quotes in different formats makes it harder to tell whether an offer genuinely meets your specification. Protein Link presents every listing in the same structure so the comparison starts on equal terms.
Common inputs
- Manufacturing beef and trim for patties, pies, ready meals and processed lines
- Pork trim and primals for smallgoods and further processing
- Chicken breast, thigh and mechanically separated meat (MDM) where listed
- Frozen meat lines for planned production runs
- Seafood for value-added and frozen products
Specifications come first
Before you send a request, compare the listing against your raw material specification: cut or product description, chemical lean or visual lean where stated, bone-in or boneless, chilled or frozen, pack type and carton weight. Where a detail you need is not on the listing, ask before you commit.
Our guide to how food manufacturers source bulk protein covers the questions procurement teams usually ask.
Ordering at production volumes
Listings are sold in wholesale formats, usually cartons on pallets. You send an order request against a listing and the supplier accepts it before freight is quoted. Every order is recorded with its product, specification, quantity and price, which gives you a clean audit trail for supplier approval and traceability records.
Pricing and payment
Each listing shows one buyer price ex GST, with Protein Link's margin included and the supplier's base price kept confidential. Freight is quoted per shipment and confirmed before you pay. Payment runs through the platform and is processed by Stripe. Trade credit is not available yet.
Freight and receiving
Refrigerated freight is coordinated through Protein Link's carrier partner, with chilled and frozen product handled according to its storage state. The delivery lanes available to your site are confirmed during onboarding. Your own receiving checks, such as temperature, packaging and labelling, remain part of your food safety program.
