Domestic protein sourcing for exporters
In short
Australian exporters can use Protein Link to source product from verified domestic suppliers, with delivery within Australia. Protein Link does not hold an export licence and does not arrange international freight. Export eligibility, including the requirements administered by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry under the Export Control Act 2020, remains the exporter's responsibility.
What Protein Link does for exporters
Exporters often need to top up a container, find a line for a new customer or replace a short delivery at short notice. Protein Link lets approved buyers compare verified domestic supply in one place, with each listing stating its product, specification, storage state, pack format and origin.
Product is delivered within Australia, for example to your cold store or consolidation point. What happens after that, including export documentation and shipping, is handled by you and your own providers.
What Protein Link does not do
- Protein Link does not hold an export licence or act as an exporter
- It does not arrange international freight, export documentation or certification
- It does not confirm that a listed product is eligible for a particular export market
Export eligibility is your call
Meat and seafood exported from Australia must generally meet the requirements set under the Export Control Act 2020, which are administered by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Those requirements can include product coming from a registered establishment and meeting the importing country's conditions.
Before you buy a listing for export, confirm with the supplier and your own compliance team that the product, its establishment and its documentation meet the requirements for your market. If a listing does not state what you need, ask before you send a request.
Categories exporters look at
Exporters commonly compare beef, lamb, frozen meat and seafood. Each listing sets out whether it is chilled or frozen, which matters for both domestic transport and the onward journey.
Domestic freight, pricing and payment
Domestic refrigerated freight is coordinated through Protein Link's carrier partner and quoted per shipment before you pay. The lanes available to your delivery point are confirmed during onboarding. You see one buyer price ex GST per listing, and payment is processed through the platform by Stripe.
Applying as an exporter
Request buyer access and mention that you export. The team verifies your ABN and trading profile before any stock or pricing is visible. If you also have product to sell domestically, see selling wholesale meat.
